Rosemary works great at dinnertime … who knew that it would also be a great tool for your scalp and hair? This woody, bracing, herbal-green plant is both a culinary favorite when fresh and a scalp and hair restorative in its essential oil form. It’s been used in both ways dating back centuries. Rosemary is simple to use at home, and can be competitive with much more costly commercial products to keep your hair and scalp healthy, happy, and looking great.
The strength of certified organic rosemary essential oil comes from its natural power to soothe irritated skin, support circulation in the scalp, promote hair growth, prevent hair loss, and even decrease feelings of itchiness and dandruff on the skin.
How can you get the benefits of certified organic rosemary essential oil? Here are a few ways to begin … your ultimate application is going to depend on preference and physical need. Try any of these methods one to two times per week to begin, then use them more often when you’ve become more comfortable with the process and exposure.
Massage Directly into Your Scalp
Place five drops of certified organic rosemary essential oil with a small amount of carrier oil (FCO or olive oil, for instance) into a shallow dish. Blend well. Using your fingertips, massage evenly into your scalp before a bath or shower. Leave for at least 30 minutes … or cover with a soft cap and leave overnight. In the morning, wash as normal and rinse well.
Mix with N8 Naked Shampoo Base
Use the flexible and gentle N8 Naked Shampoo base as a vehicle to get daily exposure to organic rosemary for your scalp. Add two or three drops to the bottle per ounce of product and blend well before using. Or put a dollop of the product in your hand and add a drop or two of essential oil … rubbing your hands together briefly to blend before applying to your scalp.
Create the Ultimate Head Blend
Blending the earthy smell of certified organic rosemary with the bright and energetic scent of certified organic peppermint essential oil may not seem immediately intuitive, but the result is both a sweet-smelling and effective tool to ease scalp discomfort, promote hair growth, and get your hair naturally clean and all-day beautiful.
When using essential oils in shampoo form, try to avoid getting the residual suds in your eyes. If it does happen, rinse thoroughly with cool water. Likewise, be careful not to apply too much essential oil as it may irritate the skin – causing discomfort. It’s always a good idea to dilute essential oils with a carrier oil or other product before applying it.
Combine the essential oils with the shampoo base in a small container and mix well. Apply to wet hair and lather, working into the roots of your hair and your scalp, especially on areas that are irritated or need follicle stimulation. Let sit on your scalp for 1-2 minutes and rinse well. Proceed with a conditioner.
